Italy in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics has been having success throughout 2022. The main team members are Asia and Alice D’Amato, Giorgia Villa, Martina Maggio & Angela Andreoli. All 5 members have competed at multiple competitions & will represent Italy at Euros & even there is a success, there is a worry. I will talk about their success, worried & their euros competition.
Stuttgart Team Challenge
The team claimed silver in the team event but left with 3 individual golds & a silver medal. One of these was Angela Andreoli on her maiden Senior Debut in one of her best routines of 2022 so far.
City of Jesolo
They once again claimed silver in the team event. Asia D’Amato and Martina Maggio took silver and bronze respectively in the all around whilst. Asia and Martina would take silver on Vault and Floor whilst Giorgia Villa took bronze on bars.
Mediterranean Games
Italy won the team title and won an impressive 11 medals including claiming all titles available. Martina Maggio won All Around and Beam, Asia D’Amato won Vault and Floor whilst Giorgia Villa took the Bars title.
What are their European Chances?
They are contenders for Gold in the Team Final along with France and Great Britain. I think they are final contenders on all apparatus but they will be against a tougher field this time from the Gadirova twins to Zsofia Kovacs but first, they need to qualify, not only to fight for Gold but if they want to go for worlds
Concerns
There is a concern that the girls may be tired by worlds. I do feel the concern myself but I feel because it’s a big gap, they could be fine but there is still positing but there will be a few gymnasts competing twice in the four week period that might have the same situation. An example would be juniors complete in brig EYOF and Euros and GB’s Alice Kinsella, Georgia Mae Fenton and Ondine Achampong would also be in a similar issue as they will compete in Commonwealth Games before Euros.
